Following suggestions and feedback from the members of the public, the Coimbatore Corporation has shifted to its schools the vaccination centres for those in the 45-plus age category.
A release from Commissioner P. Kumaravel Pandian said the civic body would henceforth vaccinate people in North Zone at the Thudiyalur Middle School, Vellakinaru and Saravanampatty primary schools, Gandhi Managar High School, P.N. Palayam Middle School, Sivanandapuram Janatha Nagar Primary School and Chinnavedampatti Primary School.
In East Zone it would hold the camps at Cheran Managar Higher Secondary School, Kalapatti Higher Secondary School, Nehru Nagar Middle School, Masakalipalayam Middle School, Udayampalayam Higher Secondary School, Boys’ Higher Secondary School in Ondipudur, Girls’ higher secondary schools in Ramakrishnapuram and Singanallur and Uppilipalayam, Neelikonampalayam and Krishnapuram middle schools.
Coimbatore: City corporation commissioner P Kumaravel Pandian has permitted traders to sell grocery items through vehicles or pushcarts at residents’ doorsteps. Traders commenced their mobile sales on Tuesday.
A corporation official said, “The state government has issued an order stating that the grocery items could be sold through vehicles or pushcarts at doorsteps from 7am to 6pm after obtaining permission from local bodies. Grocery shops are also allowed to accept orders via online or telephone and deliver it at the customers’ houses. Based on the order, the corporation had granted permission to the traders to sell grocery through vehicles following Covid-19 guidelines.”

Coimbatore Corporation has permitted poultry shops to take orders online for chicken and eggs and deliver them at customers’ doorsteps.
A release from Commissioner P. Kumaravel Pandian said the relaxation was based on a letter from the Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries Department.
Likewise, the Corporation said traders dealing in fruits, vegetables and groceries in wholesale would be allowed to open shops and conduct business within the permitted time provided they followed the social distancing norms, the release added.

The Thudiyalur weekly market or the Ramar Kovil vegetable market wore a deserted look on Tuesday morning, a day after the Coimbatore Corporation had said it was setting up temporary wholesale vegetable markets there to decongest the M.G.R. Wholesale Vegetable Market on Mettupalayam Road.
Sources said the after the Special Officer for the Corporation for COVID-19 management Veera Raghava Rao and Commissioner P. Kumaravel Pandian inspected the Market on Monday morning and held a discussion with a few traders in the evening, the Corporation had in a release said it had been decided to decongest M.G.R. Wholesale Vegetable Market by establishing temporary markets in the aforementioned places.
25 doctors appointed on temporary basis

Minister for Food and Civil Supplies R. Sakkarapani on Tuesday distributed appointment orders to 25 doctors, to be appointed on a temporary basis for three months in the Coimbatore Corporation.
A release said the doctors would support the civic body’s COVID-19 control measures by working either at urban primary health centres or COVID-19 Care Centres with oxygen beds. The Corporation had called for applications from doctors on May 31.
Special Officer for COVID-19 Control for Corporation Veera Raghava Rao and Commissioner P. Kumaravel Pandian were also present.
