One paddy ban won't stop the bad show
This blunt instrument of banning Pusa-44 to deal with air pollution, a multifaceted problem, may fail to deliver results. Instead, it is certain to anger the states vocal and politically influential farming community. In fact, farmers ignored the governments request not to sow Pusa-44 this season. While the varietys yields are substantially more than those of others, Pusa-44 requires much more water and chemicals. But free electricity and water take care of the extra costs.
