Parham Doctor’s Hospital says that the intervention of Henrico police officers interrupted their care of Irvo Otieno. The statement comes from a plan of corrective action the hospital gave to the state on Dec. 21.
An investigation led by the state has found that the hospital where Irvo Otieno, a 28-year-old Black man who later died in the custody of sheriff’s, failed to meet care standards when he was in a mental health crisis.
The findings revealed hospital staff failed to provide the necessary stabilizing treatment after Otieno was "presented to the emergency department with an emergency medical condition."
