The city of Avondale Estates has settled a lawsuit with the owner of condemned property at 143 Maple Street regarding the fair market value of the property.

The Avondale Estates City Commission will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 5:30 p.m. for a regular meeting, followed by a work session. The city commission meeting will be held at Avondale Estates City Hall, 21 N. Avondale Plaza, and via Zoom.

The Avondale Estates City Commission, at its Oct. 12 meeting, approved the purchase of electric charging stations for the police department in the rear of the city hall parking lot.

The city of Avondale Estates will soon be getting more greenspace. At the Sept. 28 city commission meeting, the board approved an intergovernmental agreement with DeKalb County for the greenspace known as Lanier Gardens. 

The Avondale Estates City Commission, at its Sept. 13 meeting, approved an amendment to the city's zoning code to reduce the side yard setbacks for corner lot properties zoned R-12 and R-24.

Restrictions on hiring police chiefs from outside their departments are common in Massachusetts. In Revere, the mayor wanted the option to look for a top cop externally to clean up a "toxic culture" within the city's police force. But, a city law made that impossible.

After two unsuccessful searches to find a finance director, the city of Avondale Estates will work with Mercer Group Associates to conduct the search and help fill the position.

Stephanie Daniels Sadler has purchased Bryant Funeral Home in Alliance. She worked for the previous owner for more than 14 years.
