A “high-end organic” grocery store and hundreds of apartments could arrive by 2027.

The proposed redevelopment of Southpoint Mall in Durham does not include affordable housing.

The submitted rezoning request consisted of adding up to 1,382 apartment units, a 200-room hotel and 300,000 square feet of office space. These new additions could grow the mall to 3.3 million square feet while it currently sits at 1.3 million square feet.&nbsp&#x3B;

Walltown residents have fought for decades to bring prosperity to their community. With a developer’s plans for a research campus at nearby Northgate Mall requiring a rezoning, Durham’s city council holds the cards.
