Ever since February, protests in Myanmar have erupted over a coup d’état by the military. The coup was led by Min Aung Hlaing, a Burmese army general who assumed the role as the Chairman of the State Administration Council after overthrowing former State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi during the revolution. Many of the protests have been peaceful and non-violent. Such protesters have used acts of civil disobedience, labor strikes and military boycott campaigns, and adopted the three-fingered salute that was popularized by the film adaptations of the Hunger Games. However, responses to the protests have been more violent, as well as including cutting out internet and social media access, and arresting protesters participating in the events.More than 600 people have been killed by security forces since the Feb. 1 military coup.
