Head of Windsor-Essex County health board calls on community to lobby province for SafePoint funding to help deal with local opioid crisis.

SafePoint will be operated by staff from Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare, thanks to a partnership with the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit.

An animal tranquilizer called Xylazine has been found in Ontario's unregulated drug supply, and the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is warning that it may increase the risk of an overdose.

A potentially deadly drug is creeping into Ontario’s street drug supply and fueling overdoses. Xylazine, also known as "tranq,” is an animal tranquillizer used in veterinary medicine that is not approved for use in humans — the drug can be cut with opioids such as fentanyl.
