Ignite Achievement Academy was removed from Indianapolis Public Schools after low test scores. But the mayor’s office has let the school continue under a new name.

Indianapolis Public Schools leaders are recommending the closure of Joyce Kilmer School 69 this summer following the decision by charter school partner Kindezi Academy to no longer manage the school.

Kindezi took over Joyce Kilmer School 69 in 2016 in hopes of turning the struggling school around.

The schools board voted last week to fight efforts to close the school. The IPS board will vote on the agreement with Ignite Thursday.

Indianapolis Public Schools will vote next week to end its contract with Ignite Achievement Academy.
