Researchers at MIT have developed a handheld robot that can help minimally trained responders to control severe internal bleeding in victims of traumatic injury, by helping them insert a needle and catheter into a major blood vessel.

A new handheld surgical robot can help users halt fatal blood loss. Lincoln Laboratory and Massachusetts General Hospital developed the device for people with minimal training to quickly install a catheter into a common femoral vessel, enabling rapid treatment at the point of injury.

MIT Lincoln Laboratory developed a system that warns military recruits if they are at risk of a heat injury during training. The system uses a heart rate monitor to estimate its wearer's core body temperature and a smartwatch that alerts them if they are overheating.
