the president s response to the supreme court ruling on roe v wade, arguing he s not doing enough to protect abortion rights. and millions of americans have found traveling for the fourth to be less than a happy experience. thousands of flights delayed across the u.s. since saturday and nearly 1100 more today. of course, today is the last day of the holiday travel rush. millions of americans either heading home or getting ready to. it has been a rough ride for many. more than 11,000 flights in and out of the u.s. have been n 1,00 have en cancelled. reporter: here things are pretty smooth sailing today. as you can see behind me, i m at departures right now here at newark. this is a completely different story when you compare it to friday and through the weekend. right now this morning fewer than ten delays, just a couple of cancellations. across the country this morning, fewer than 1,000 delays. again, very different from the weekend with thousands of delays and hundreds o
floats. then it just opened up, that familiar, you know, semi gunfire. just a rain of shots. nbc s rehema ellis has been monitoring this. rehema, what do we know right now? reporter: not much more than what you talked about, steve, because this is unfolding as we speak. you pointed out the police are looking for a suspect. this event happened, this mass shooting happened just a short while after the fireworks, the fourth of july festivities, were getting under way. as you reported, there are reports of several people who were shot. we do not at this point have an exact number of how many people were shot or if any people were killed in this incident. as one person was saying there that we just heard from, people were enjoying a fourth of july festivity, a parade, in highland park. this is a community about 25 miles north of chicago. when they heard these sounds ring out. the guy was saying there, you heard a pop, pop, pop, and he said it was like a rain of shots that just
support the there is a lot of video out there, and i hope there s a lot more from the various organizations that are here, that and if there is anything that may show that or anything at all, certainly we would appreciate that being provided by law enforcement. at this point, there s audio and video, or there s i m sorry, audio as part of a video where the shots have been fired and the like. there was a red vehicle that turned on tippett, was that the vehicle that was involved? and did the shots come from that car? the shots did come from that how far up that hill i don t know but it came from up in that direction, and the red vehicle certainly was a big part of the investigation, still is. [ inaudible ] it appears that there is only one person firing shots. but it s possible there may be other people who were with him

bones details here. we believe the press conference isless than ten minutes away, pete. there was a period where they were considering the possibility of mor than one gunman. do you know, pete, how they eliminated that possibility? i think talking to witnesses is what got them on to the idea that there was more than one person firing shots at the beginning. and subsequently doing searching and talking to more witnesses is probably what got them off of that idea. they seem to be pretty confident now that there was just one single gunman. and pete, as this unfolds, who will have primary jurisdiction over this investigation? it s going to be a military investigation because it was on a military base, committed by a person in uniform. if it was a civilian person on a military base, that would be different. if the gunman had survived it would be a military prosecution. the fbi will certainly assist in whatever it can do in off-base
