A report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ranks Louisiana in the top states with high rates of sexually transmitted infections.

BATON ROUGE - Louisianas chief medical officer Dr. Joseph Kanter is stepping down, the Louisiana Department of Health said Monday. 

The LDH said the current deputy secretary, Dr. Pete Croughan, will serve as interim state health officer.

Dr. Joe Kanter, an emergency room physician who served as one of Louisiana’s top medical officials through the COVID-19 pandemic, has stepped down from his position, Kanter confirmed Tuesday.
