The search for a man who has been missing for 14 years is being revisited this fall.

Authorities say the landscape and terrain of the area have changed due to the ongoing drought, so they're going back out to search for the 82-year-old man who went missing more than 14 years ago.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office will revisit the search area as new investigators take over the case.

Eighty-two-year-old Peter Achermann was last seen on July 24, 2009, when he left his home to run errands. His vehicle was found the next day in the middle of a minimum maintenance road in Becker Township.

“It’s strange,” Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch said, as his department has followed many leads over the years but still haven’t found any trace of Achermann or his belongings. “This case remains open and we’re trying to figure out what happened to him. We want to bring comfort to the family and give them closure and answers on what happened to him.”

The Dispatch received seven first-place awards, including winning the General Excellence category, at the 2020-21 Minnesota Newspaper Association’s Better Newspaper Contest.
