Worcester Central Catholic schools extend remote learning until Jan 25

WORCESTER – With the city still in the teeth of the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, Worcester’s Central Catholic schools will extend its remote learning break another two weeks, according to the system’s superintendent. St. Peter Central Catholic Elementary School and St. Paul Diocesan Jr/Sr. High School, which spent most of this school year doing in-person education unlike surrounding public schools, had already moved to fully remote learning three weeks ago. While that earlier decision was aimed more at providing a break to staff, Worcester Catholic Schools Superintendent David Perda said, the extension of the remote period, which originally was supposed to end Monday, is due to heightened concerns by local health officials about worsening COVID-19 case rates in the city.

Last Call with Maddie s Dash Cams

Last Call with Maddie’s Dash Cams Sarah Connell Sanders Correspondent Mother-daughter team Aly Forson Whalen and Madison Whalen began handing out dash cameras to Black and brown men over the summer. They asked no questions about income. There were no expectations attached. Madison simply wanted to help, “keep dads safe,” in any way she could. On her Facebook page, Aly wrote, “Madison and I love our Black Men and need them to come home safe to continue to support our community; we cannot continue to endure the slaughter of our family units.” Donations rolled in and soon the Whalens teamed up with local philanthropic organizer Woodrow Adams Jr. of 508 Forever Young to expand their reach. Together, Adams and the Whalens intend to distribute 75 more cameras this January at Scoop Drip on Millbury Street and Michaelangelo’s Barbershop on Green Street.

Catholic schools in Worcester to make temporary switch to remote learning

Catholic schools in Worcester to make temporary switch to remote learning WORCESTER – Starting next Monday, several Catholic schools in the region, which were among the few schools attempting full-time in-person learning this semester, will make a temporary move to remote learning, the system’s superintendent said. David Perda said the roughly two-week break from in-person classes was originally intended to apply to the two Worcester central Catholic schools: St. Paul Diocesan Jr./Sr. High School and St. Peter Central Catholic Elementary School. But the other Catholic schools under the Diocese of Worcester have also been allowed to make the same call, Perda said; several have already planned to take remote breaks of their own.
