Congressional lawmakers had a hearing Tuesday on PFAS: a group of man-made chemicals known to cause illnesses, cancer and damaged immune systems in children. Eric Franklin Wood, a world-renowned hydrologist who did groundbreaking work in drought prediction and served on the Princeton faculty for 43 years, died from cancer in Brooklyn, New York, on Nov. 3. He was 74.

A joint hearing was held entitled Forever Chemicals: Research and Development for Addressing the PFAS Problem. Four witnesses spoke on their respective knowledge of the current state of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances PFAS and where future actions should be focused.
