MANKATO — "FreepCast," the new podcast from The Free Press newsroom, debuted with its first episode last week and can be found on podcast platforms Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

Guy Wicklander was working as a corrections employee in 1999 when a prisoner attacked him. Peter Shoen, who had been convicted of beating his wife to death, intervened.

"When I was attacked, I did not know what was happening because I was knocked out. I was unconscious," Wicklander said in an interview Wednesday.
