Tumwater School District is delighted to announce the appointment of Heidi Center-Howden as the new Principal of Michael T. Simmons Elementary.

Six schools in Olympia and Tumwater are named for those who have indeed laid those strong foundations. Not all are without their faults, but learning about those faults can teach people what to avoid when moving forward.

Beer history in Olympia started with Leopold Schmidt in 1896. He formed the Olympia Brewing Company in 1902. Peter G. Schmidt continued the family's legacy.

The school board unanimously selected Kevin Bogatin as superintendent on March 9. He officially begins on July 1, although he has already hit the ground running by communicating with stakeholders.

The Tivoli Fountain has a long history as a focal point on the Washington State Capitol Campus. It was recently fully restored and is open again.

Olympia Brewing Company’s famous motto, “It’s the Water,” reflects more than just the historic promotion of the Olympia Beer’s source. The motto’s author, long-time brewery officer Frank M. Kenney, also had a deep attachment to another aquatic body, one named after him and where he lived and died. It was Ken Lake.
