Peter S. Thomas, a Sandwich Water District commissioner for 27 years, has been re-elected to another three-year term by a landslide vote of 640 to 167.

Most residents were ready last week to declare Sandwich election season over, but there is one more contest to be decided.

Although there are few contested races for town offices this year, there is an unexpected horse race for a seat on the Sandwich Water District’s Board of Water Commissioners.

Peter S. Thomas said he was surprised that someone was vying for the Sandwich Water District seat he has held for 27 years, but he welcomes the challenge.

David J. Sampson, former selectman and current chairman of the charter review committee, has pulled papers to run for water district commissioner.
