After a 10-year hiatus, Chicago's Winter Jazz Fair returned on Friday.

“It’s a wide variety of different genres, from New Age to Afro-Cuban, Latin jazz and a little bit of avant-garde,” said John Foster, the Jazz Institute’s managing director of programs and education initiatives, about this weekend’s Chicago Jazz Festival.

The Springfield Jazz and Blues Festival plans more artists, 18, along with other innovations to enhance the experience.

In-person Art & Soul events are scheduled for February at the Cabaret, Jazz Kitchen and Indianapolis Artsgarden.

The Jazz Institute of Chicago celebrates the centennial of the great Satchmo’s years in Chicago with a concert June 10 at Columbus Park Refectory.

This summer, touring acts are back, capacity restrictions are mostly moot and festivals are returning to their regularly scheduled length.
