When Jesus Rega got his high school diploma, he didn’t get to walk across the stage. He couldn’t. Jesus Rega who was shot last month in the Back of the Yards while waiting for his school bus, is "making a fast recovery," his family said.

The group approached Jesus Rega in front of his home and yelled that they were members of the Two-Six street gang that’s notorious in the area. But Chicago police believe the attackers were actually aligned with the Latin Saints and were using a tactic called “false flagging.”

The 21-year-old man remains in critical condition but is “responding pretty well” a day after being shot in the head and shoulder, his dad said Thursday, a day after the father and son were shot at while waiting for a school bus.

Police believe the attackers were Latin Saints but identified themselves as members of another gang to ambush potential rivals, a source said.

Philip Rega said he was about to dial 911 when gunfire erupted — nearly 40 rounds by the police count. His older son Jesus Rega, 21, was hit three times, including once in the head. The elder Rega and his other son, 15, were not hurt.

Chicago police are looking for the suspects accused of opening fire at a father and his two sons while they were waiting for a school bus. One of his sons with disabilities was shot three times.
