The Montreal police service is putting forward the name of Sophie Roy, deputy director of criminal investigations, to become the new interim chief of the SPVM, sources tell Radio-Canada. 

Citing personal reasons, Montreal's chief of police, Sylvain Caron, is stepping down just four years into a five year contract, after taking the reins at a difficult time in the police force's history.

Sylvain Caron announced he will retire on April 22, ending a turbulent three-year tenure.
