Late Aston Villa stunner dents fading Champions League hopes of Everton

Aston Villa winger Anwar El Ghazi produced a sublime finish to cap off a thrilling encounter that severely dented the Champions League aspirations of Everton.
With Everton’s hopes of securing a top four finish fading fast, the onus was on
the Toffees to push the tempo. The opening 10 minutes produced an even contest with possession split evenly, but the deadlock would soon be broken through the irrepressible Ollie Watkins.
Aston Villa striker pressed Mason Holgate into a mistake before outmuscling the centre-half to break away.
The deadlock would ultimately be broken in emphatic fashion, much to the chagrin of Ancelotti and Everton.
Speaking to
BT Sport after the match,
Ancelotti said: “The way we made a lot of mistakes at the beginning – no balance, no concentration… It was not a good evening. I don’t know why.
“They showed more desire. It was an important game that we tried to win to stay in the fight. We are still in the fight but it is more and more difficult.
“It is difficult to say why [they struggle at home]. It is the same team who beat Arsenal seven days ago.

Leicester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Everton at Goodison Park and denied the chance to go joint level on points with table-topping Manchester City.
Having trailed at the interval, Leicester equalised midway through the second period and looked likely to go on and win it.
However their possession did not result in a winner as they had to settle for a point.
Leicester were well on top in the early stages, pushing forward and causing problems for Everton’s defence.
