Volunteers gathered at 46 sites on campus and around Los Angeles, including schools, parks and food banks, said Jeffrey Hwang, the UCLA Volunteer Center program coordinator, in an emailed statement.

Students, faculty and staff expressed support for new gender-inclusive guidelines for blood donation but noted they may have limited efficacy. The United States Food and Drug Administration announced May 11 it will implement new guidance that will allow men who have sex with men to donate blood without a deferral period for the first time since 1985.
