off than other states. i was going to say, it s a remarkable achievement out there, talking about earlier the state of the republican party and as a conservative and republican, much rather defend on the policy ground what he s doing to the crazy statements of newt gingrich or michele bachmann and all of that stuff. remarkable achievement. a state like california, 7, $800 billion in unfunded pension liabilities. it s a huge crisis in the country. one of the few governors in the country to take it on and to succeed and this is where republicans should be talking about. what republicans should be fighting on. that s an interesting point because what we found is, the last month or so, a lot of the voters that would come to me would say, you know, i voted for your opponent two years ago or i m a democrat and voting for you and one of the biggest reasons that we got those independent swing voters is people said we appreciate somebody willing to take a chance at sticking their neck out t
americans agree that it is speaker boehner who is responsible. that just me, mike. reporter: i think the white house is reading some of those same polls. they are very confident they are on the winning political ground. no question about it. and on the winning policy ground as well for that matter. the president today was letting it be known by his press secretary, called speaker boehner along with the senate majority leader harry reid. the message to speaker boehner was you need to take pup senate bill. you need to give it a clean up or down vote. in the meantime, the speaker reciprocated saying, we need your help again. the speaker saying, call the senate back. we are at a stand-off at this point. that really shows no sign of any opening at this point. i would be interested to hear what luke has to say on that front. hand it over. loo luke, it s all yours. what do they have to say? reporter: they re sticking to there strategy of saying speaker boehner has appointed the conferre
and joining us from the white house is austan goolsbee, the chairman of the counsel of economic advisers at the white house. austan, it is looking like the democrats including harry reid in the senate want to reopen the package. as far as you know, the framework agreement that the president announced this week was an all or nothing kind of take it or leave it deal, and are you ready to see it reopen for negotiations? well, look, i m not a legislative negotiator, but a policy guy. if you look at the policy of this, certainly the president doesn t like the extending the high income tax cuts. he says he does not believe they work, but for every dollar of that there s more than $ 2.50 for obama s priorities that nobody expected on the deal. on straight policy ground, the extending not just the bush middle-class tax cuts, but the obama tax cuts and the unemployment benefits and getting the money to encourage
dollars. it became one of the top business people. went to television, and for ten years was a tremendous success as you probably have heard. ran for president one time and won, and then i hear this guy that doesn t not know me, doesn t know me at all. jesse: this is what they did with reagan and bush. all republican presidents are dumb and crazy. now they are doing it. dana: this went way over the line to me. the psychiatrist getting together, figuring out, first they thought he didn t want to run, then he didn t want to win and then didn t want to govern. today his deputy press secretary announces he is for sure running again in 2020. i think this is a big waste of time by the democrats because they are ceding the policy ground to republicans as they take off their agenda one by one. the economy is recovered and president trump is pushing on the gas pedal and that with the
whether it s because of the merits of journalistic integrity or they were worried about a lawsuit.giop i would like to learn a little bit more about that. i also think about van jones.y we just showed up, a clip of him when he was at the democratic national meeting. he was saying, stop the russia thing because we are going to lose. we are seating the policy ground while everyone is going to be talking about health care or helping the working class, we p are all talking about russia and you just burned a billion dollars on an election that didn t help advance the ball. i think he has actually been consistent. it s a bummer that you can t feel like you have any privacy a whatsoever in any of your conversations, but i guess for him, i do think he has been consistent. kimberly: what you make of this latest development with van jones? do you agree with greg, that he was never really want to confront on russia? jesse: i m sure you can find tape up van jones saying some pretty horrific th
