Earlier, in a landmark verdict, the SC had scrapped the poll bond scheme on the ground that it was unconstitutional. The SBI, the only authorised seller of these bonds, was subsequently ordered to share the details with the poll watchdog.

In the affidavit, SBI revealed that a total of 22,217 electoral bonds were purchased and 22,030 redeemed by political parties between April 1, 2019 and February 15 this year.

Poll bonds: Indian banks norms may hinder the disclosure of subscribers names in electoral bonds. The Supreme Court banned these bonds, citing transparency and accountability concerns. The State Bank of India has been ordered to disclose donor details, including the BJPs lions share of Rs 16,518.11 crore funding, ahead of the general elections.

Electoral bond case: The State Bank of India, the authorised seller of these poll bonds, was directed by the apex court to provide details of donations made through these bonds, as well as all relevant info on whoever the money went to.

The apex court not just struck down the scheme but also ordered the SBI, the only authorised seller, to furnish all relevant info to the election watchdog in a time-bound manner. The EC will put up these details on its portal, allowing anyone interested to find out who was giving how much money to which political party.
