By Mary-Jane Duncan © DCT Media The kids have announced they have ‘second-hand embarrassment’.  Caused by us.  Am I the only person that didn’t know this was a thing? Yet another thing on the already extensive list of parental dos and don’ts.  Don’t speak to my pals.  Don’t you like my friends enough to say hello?  Just drop me round the corner.  What do you mean you won’t take me right to the door?  The list goes on but now I have SECOND-HAND EMBARASSMENT to contemp...

© SNS Group There is a “big game feel” about Dundee’s home clash with Raith Rovers with a second-place Championship finish on the line. That’s according to Dark Blues manager James McPake with his side requiring victory to keep any hope of leapfrogging their opponents alive. With just two matches remaining four points separate the two sides, meaning Dundee need to win both their remaining matches and hope Raith fail to beat Hearts on the final day. The Kirkcaldy side have made light wo...

© Supplied by Courier artist It’s a strange spring this year, partly as regards the low numbers of small songbirds visiting the garden. Last year we counted as many as 11 goldfinches coming daily to feed on nyger seeds.  This year we’ve seen one goldfinch, about six weeks ago. © Nigel Blake (rspb-images.com) A goldfinch feeing on sunflower hearts. I’ve been putting out seeds and peanuts and fat balls as I’ve done for years but the songbird numbers are way down on previous years. We h...

She is, however, heard and not seen, in a new production by Sound Stage, which premieres through Pitlochry Festival Theatre on April 30 and runs through to May 8. If there was ever a playwright who could hold the attention, just by his use of language in an audio-only production, it’s John Byrne, and naturally there’s much excitement that this production, Tennis Elbow, is...

Dundee goalie Adam Legzdins: Teams will be fearing us in key end-of-season clashes © SNS Group Goalkeeper Adam Legzdins says “teams will be fearing us” as Dundee set their sights on promotion through the Premiership play-offs. The Dark Blues still need points to confirm their place in the pressurised end-of-season clashes. Victory on Saturday at home to Raith Rovers would also keep alive their hopes of finishing in second place, giving them a bye to the play-off semi-final. However, they a...

First-half goals from Jason Cummings and Liam Fontaine were enough to set up a final day battle for the Championship’s runner-up spot. Raith would get a goal back with two minutes to go through Kyle Benedictus but it was too little, too lat...

CATHERNE DEVENEY: Anthony Hopkins might win an Oscar for his film about dementia, families just want some recognition of how hard it is to live with it After the fall, something had changed. Post-operation, she looked so tiny in the hospital bed – an old, lost child drowning in a sea of sheets and pillows, eyes cast downwards with a strange intensity. When they flicked up again, her voice was conspiratorial, barely a whisper. “They are trying to poison me,” she confided, watching a nurse ...
