Sundays weather tested containment lines, but they held during wind gusts and the fire area did not expand, Prescott National Forest officials said.

A red flag warning and a wind advisory were issued for Sunday, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., for northern Arizona due to dry conditions and strong winds.

According to the Prescott National Forest, fire crews made some progress along the perimeter on Friday and focused on specific areas of concern.

A decades-long megadrought, combined with low humidity and high winds, has contributed to the tinderbox conditions in the region.

Residents should be mindful of increasing smoke due to winds from the south, officials said.

The Crooks Fire burning south of Prescott remained at 9,014 acres and 23% containment as of Thursday morning.

A community meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Embry Riddle University in the Hanger, 3700 Willow Creek Drive in Prescott.

Some residents were allowed to return in the Crooks Fire burn area. Residents can go to the checkpoint on Walker Road at south entrance to Lynx Lake.

The fire was 22% contained as of Monday morning, fire officials said. The cause of the Crooks Fire is still under investigation.

Officials with the Prescott National Forest say the Crooks Fire is now 15% contained and has so far burned nearly 3,100 acres. A Crooks Fire community meeting will be held Sunday, April 24th, 2022, at 6:00 p.m., at Embry Riddle University in the Hanger. The meeting will be live-streamed & the recording will be available afterward.
