Rescuers are digging through dirt and parts of a collapsed road tunnel to reach more than 30 workers trapped by a landslide in northern India

The operations to rescue the over 40 workers trapped under a collapsed tunnel at Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand are being carried out on a war footing on Monday morning. It has been over 24 hours since a portion of an under-construction tunnel between Silkyara and Dandalgaon on the Brahmakhal-Yamunotri National Highway collapsed.

NDRF and other teams engaged in the rescue operation at the site of the collapsed under-construction tunnel in Uttarkashi, hope to evacuate the 40 workers trapped inside the tunnel by today evening. Rescuers say the teams still have to clear about 35 metres of debris more to reach the location of the 40 trapped workers.

The collapse occurred on Sunday in Uttarakhand state.

A rescue operation is on to rescue 40 workers trapped inside a tunnel in Uttarakhand since yesterday morning.

The Uttarakhand Chief Minister said that he is monitoring the situation closely and is also in touch with the officials.

About 40 people were trapped after an under-construction tunnel from Silkyara to Dandalgaon in Uttarkashi collapsed on Sunday.
