The wave of abduction of journalists that continues to grow under a so-called democratic government has no doubt become a point of concern

TODAY’S World Press Freedom Day is a timely reminder of the critical role of the media in promoting the ideals of a democracy in society.

Despite 24 years of unbroken civilian rule, basic freedoms, including of the press, are still far from the global standards in Nigeria.

Though there has been no official communication on Eze’s arrest, The Eagle Online learnt he is being held by the DSS.

The Eagle Online has since learnt that he was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services.

Human rights organisation, the Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has called for an immediate release of a journalist and online blogger, Precious Eze who was allegedly "kidnapped" in Lagos residence by members of the Special Police Taskforce from Abuja on Tuesday last week. RULAAC described the unlawful seizure and detention of Eze for five days without disclosure of his whereabouts as criminal and arbitrary.
