After the abatement of heavy rains over the last few days in Kampong Speu and Kampong Chhnang provinces, the floodwaters there have gradually receded, while the flooding in southwestern Phnom Penh and neighbouring Kandal province from the Stung Prek Tnaot River remained stagnant.

Prime Minister Hun Sen on August 31 broke ground on two new flyovers in the capital – a $36.8 million interchange and a $10 million overpass. To be named Monivong, the grand interchange will link the triple intersection of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (better known as Street 271) and Monivong boulevards.

More than 100 families have agreed to accept compensation and leave their land in Kandal province’s Takhmao town. This will facilitate the implementation of a project to dig four canals – at a length of 6,000m – that aim to reduce flooding and absorb wastewater during the rainy season.
