Preparatory Dance Program News Today

Central Indiana Dance Ensemble (CIDE), located in Carmel, takes their first step toward The Ballet Alliance Festival in Spokane, WA on February 13. CIDE will take approximately 25 of their senior level dancers to the Festival during the first week of May.  

It can be daunting to be the only boy in your class. Here are some ways those from small studios can set themselves up for success. 

‘The Nutcracker’ live at the Stevens Center in downtown Winston-Salem

The School of Dance at UNCSA will once again host the Festival of North Carolina Dance on its Winston-Salem campus for 2022. More than 450 students from 31 schools, studios and companies across the state are expected to attend.

The School of Dance received an Outstanding Teachers Award at the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) Regional Semifinals, held Feb. 17-20 at Reynolds Auditorium. In addition, six UNCSA high school students and two students from the Preparatory Dance Program placed in the junior and senior categories.

Jett Lecamu of Winston-Salem has been chosen to compete in a prestigious international ballet competition in Switzerland. The 10th-grader at UNCSA will also perform in the school’s 2021 “The Nutcracker.”

But as 13-year-old Zoe rehearsed, she knew something was different. “When I first felt the pain, in a way, that really shocked me,” Zoe said. UNCSA’s Preparatory Dance Program is an after-school, preprofessional training program open to third- through ninth-graders. Its goal is to give aspiring dancers the opportunity to explore the world of dance and hone their budding talents. The next week during her classes and practice time, Zoe noticed the pain wasn’t getting better. H...
