City of Tshwane Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Utilities and Regional Operations Themba Fosi says the explosion that occurred at the Mooikloof Substation on Wednesday night was due to a fault originating from one of the 11kV power lines outside the substation .

Some of the areas affected are Moreleta Park, Constantia Park, Erasmuskloof, Pretorius Park, Olympus, Zwavelpoort, Wilds, Woodhill, Garsfontein, Faerie Glen, parts of Mamelodi and Kungwini.
