WATER flowing through a south Essex brook has turned “completely black”, leaving residents furious and concerned about wildlife.

A BROOK which runs through the heart of Southend is causing a stench after becoming blocked by fly-tippers.

A Rochford pub which was hit by floods has been left with water damage after a nearby reservoir burst its banks. Fire crews were called yesterday (January 14) around 11am to the Horse and Groom pub - based on Southend Road - with reports it had been flooded. There are surface water issues on multiple roads around south Essex, including at the A127 Fairglen Interchange. Watery Lane in Hullbridge is flooded with deep water and has been closed at both ends, with a number of vehicles reported to be stuck in the flood water.
