Let me start by having each of them talk a little bit about the state of the irs in their division. And then we will go into some q a and open it up to the audience for any questions you might have. Mary beth, can you kick us off . Ms. Murphy i want to thank the aba, the new york city bar for inviting us today. I am in my sixth year. When i look around at our Senior Executive team i think nina and , i nina for sure has the longest tenure. What are we doing . We have a really interesting role. We are charged with a mission to help Small Businesses and selfemployed taxpayers as well as 40 taxpayers. H
Iraq is still very much an experiment. One, i think the feeling that i got throughout the country is that there is still discussion about what this state represents, what it should be. And an idea that we in washington sometimes see as a divided nation that wants and should be formally split into three entities is in fact not there in many respects. Iraq is still trying to figure out in itself what the relationship should be between the communities, how it should treat its neighbors, how to redefine its identity both in terms of its relationship with iran, the u. S. And its arab partners. One thing that i think we should be looking at very clearly is the u. S. Should be encouraging that process forward. The more we encourage iraqis to discover a new process that reaches reconciliation as ambassador was mentioning i think more iraq will be stable. Definitely what the fight around daesh and isis requires that process to move forward. Thats really my viewpoint on where iraq is today. And
And i think the section 215 program is one that the government has made the argument that they need bruce force collection, they need the retention to identify previously unknown links in information. Have we given thoughts to whether there are technological options available to limit correction for a program like section 215, if you havent been more generally, you can be more specific about correction options. With respect to section 215 the data is collected initially by the phone company. The question is whether the information needs to be transferred in bulk to the Intelligence Community in order for them to do their analysis and it is pretty clear that as a technical matter, the kinds of linking, looking for multi hot links that the intelligence agencies want to do, can be done technically while the information is held to a third party such as the phone companies. This requires a modest amount of technical coordination between the entities holding the data and the entities that ar
