Florida homeowners can now apply by phone for up to $10,000 for storm-hardening home improvements. The $2-for-$1 matching grant is available for owners of standalone single-family homes located in the state's wind-borne debris region.

The number of Florida homeowners who have so far applied for state home hardening grants has not yet exceeded the number who will receive the grants. So if you apply today, your chances of scoring free state money are still pretty good. But hurry, the grants will be approved on a first-come, first-serve basis.

A new state program is now accepting applications for up to $10,000 in 2-for-1 matching funds for storm-hardening improvements. But you'd better hurry. The Division of Financial Services expects 140,000 to 150,000 applicants and only enough funds for 11,000 to 12,000 grants. They'll be approved on a first-come, first-serve basis.
