The city has been on Indiana’s map for more than a century, helping make Northwest Indiana a major hub of steelmaking since Inland Steel built an open-hearth furnace in 1902.

Rae Chesny shares the life and legacy of Zora Neale Hurston with others through lectures. Rae is working on a book that documents her journey to Zora.

Keith Norman has worked as a computer programmer and operator for the Stutsman County Courthouse and City Hall, been an office manager for a medical clinic and a radio talk show host before working as a reporter for The Jamestown Sun. 

The awards contest is held biennially during the two states’ joint convention, this year held in Deadwood, South Dakota.
