According to data shared by the police, 710 challans were issued on Diwali on Sunday (November 12) to vehicles operating without a valid PUC (PUC) certificate. A total of 584 challans and 1,085 notices were issued for obstructive or improper parking and 44 vehicles were towed away by traffic cranes.

The Delhi Transport Department is taking action against vehicles without valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates. During a pilot project at four petrol pumps, it was found that 16% of vehicles visiting these pumps were in violation of PUC regulations. Surveillance cameras were discreetly installed at these pumps to record the vehicles number plate and cross-verify it with the departments database.

The PUC certificates are necessary while plying a vehicle and indicate if the pollution emitted by the vehicle is as per norms or not.
