Leader of opposition in Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) Payal Sakariya was suspended from the general board meeting on Tuesday by Mayor Daxesh Mavani. Sakariya was demanding inclusion of AAP’s suggestions in the budget and refused to stop despite mayor’s request.

The step followed the resignations of three Aam Aadmi Party councillors – Punam Devi, Neha Musawat, and Gurcharan Kala – in Chandigarh who joined the BJP last night.

Three Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Chandigarh councillors have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi, with the AAP president alleging they were threatened or coerced. The move comes ahead of a Supreme Court hearing on allegations of irregularities in the vote-counting process for the mayoral elections. BJP leader Manoj Sonkar has already resigned from the post of Chandigarh Mayor.
