The strike ended after employees accepted the latest wage offer tabled by Putco’s management on Tuesday.

Workers at the Putco Dobsenville Depot affiliated to National Union of Mineworkers of South Africa rejected a fresh wage offer tabled on Monday by the transport company.

Workers turned off their engines at the beginning of the month after Putco signed an agreement for a 6% wage increase in 2020, later applying for a partial exemption, then offering a 3% increment instead.

In an act of fury, 105 workers were shown the door on Thursday for staging a wildcat strike since last week, demanding a 6% wage increase and backpay in bonuses since 2020.

Putco management was forced to remove its fleet of orange buses off the roads after workers went on a wildcat strike demanding a 6 percent wage increase and bonuses promised to them three years ago.

Putco dismissed 105 bus drivers on Thursday for taking part in the wildcat strike, which is now going into its ninth day.

The bus drivers said that they were not backing down from their unprotected strike at the bus company’s Pennyville offices.

Bus company Putco said its services won’t be back up and running on Wednesday as drivers continue with their unprotected strike.
