Apple TV+The fifth episode of Apple TV+'s star-studded drama The New Look dropped on Wednesday. The series explores what life was like in Paris during the Nazi occupation, and especially what choices designers like Coco Chanel and Christian Dior made at the time. Chanel cast her lot with the Nazi high command and had personal relationships with high-ranking officers.Dior and his mentor Lucien Lelong plied their craft for the spouses and girlfriends of Nazi party members, as distasteful as it may have been to them — indeed, Dior's sister was tortured by the Gestapo for her membership in the French Resistance.Oscar-nominated actor John Malkovich plays Lelong in the project, and he explained to ABC Audio, "I really knew nothing about this backstory."The fluent French speaker continued, "The French, the occupation in Paris and of a large part of France I knew about, and had read books about it and seen movies about it, etcetera. But I didn't know anything of Chanel's backstory or Dior's backstory."The series centers on the choices these icons made during what the actor called "one of the darkest times in human history.""I don't think French waiters loved Nazi clients," Malkovich insists.  "I don't think French news vendors loved Nazi clients. And I don't think Lucien Lelong loved Nazi clients. People made accommodations. People are programed to survive, both genetically and psychologically. They make accommodation and they survive to live and maybe to fight another day."   Copyright © 2024, ABC Audio. All rights reserved.

NetflixNetflix dropped the sequel to its dystopian sci-fi thriller Code 8, starring Arrow's Stephen Amell and his real-life cousin, Upload star Robbie Amell, on Tuesday. The first film was born from a short, then crowdfunded to feature-length for the streamer in 2019. The film proposes an alternative world where super-powered people literally built this country's infrastructure. After an industrial and technological revolution, however, their kind are pushed to the margins of society, with some, like Stephen's Garrett, turning to crime. With his mother ailing and no way to afford medical treatment, Robbie's electricity-controlling Connor joins in on a heist that goes wrong.Stephen expressed to ABC Audio, "The people really took ownership of the first movie."He continues, "One of the news outlets that we did an interview for, the floor manager at the news outlet was a supporter of the first movie, and they popped her on the screen to say hi. So I do think that ... if they supported the first movie, they still feel like they have ownership in the second movie."He hopes those early backers return to watch the sequel, "So then hopefully we can make a third."Robbie teases the plot to the sequel, set five years after the original. "Connor, my character, has been in prison and Stephen's character, Garrett, has been growing a bit of an empire with some shady people."He continues, "The movie starts fast, though, and it kind of becomes a chase movie, and it almost starts to happen in real time. So I don't want to give too much away, because once you're in, you're along for the ride."  Copyright © 2024, ABC Audio. All rights reserved.

Lionel Hahn/Getty ImagesJodie Turner-Smith is opening up about her divorce from fellow actor Joshua Jackson."Sometimes things we really want to work just don't end up working," the Star Wars: The Acolyte actress told the U.K.'s The Sunday Times. "And that's OK.""The most important thing is that you choose what's healthiest for you and your family and definitely your children," she added.Turner-Smith filed for divorce from Jackson in October 2023 after four years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split and asking for joint custody of the couple's 3-year-old daughter, whose name they haven't shared publicly. The Queen & Slim actress said it's important to ask yourself if you're being true to yourself."If the answer is no, then you have to make a move because I believe that there are visible scars from staying in places that are not good for us," she said. "And they don't just affect us, they affect everybody around us."Turner-Smith said she doesn't consider her marriage to the Dawson's Creek actor a failure, noting that they "had such a beautiful moment together ... and now it's time for a new moment for both of us."She said motherhood has made her "more powerful," and said she wants to instill within her daughter "how to have respect for herself and for others."Moreover, Jodie calls being a single mom "incredible."Copyright © 2024, ABC Audio. Harry Styles is an uncle! His older sister, Gemma Styles, announced the arrival of her newborn daughter on Instagram on Friday. "Hello from maternity leave! Took some time off to ensure the safe arrival of our baby girl, who is adored by her whole family," Gemma captioned her post. "I know that this news can be difficult for many people and I’m sending you lots of love."The men in Taylor Swift's life interacted with her fans during her Eras Tour concert in Sydney, Australia, on Friday. Travis Kelce passed out guitar picks to several concertgoers, as captured in footage posted to social media, while Taylor's father, Scott Swift, gave sandwiches and fruit to those seated near the concert's VIP area. In fan-recorded video, Scott can be heard telling the fans to "help yourselves" to a tray of food.Speaking of Taylor, PETA has made a statement about her two trips to the Sydney Zoo while in Australia. “While we understand all too well the appeal of seeing Australia’s wildlife, PETA hopes that next time Taylor and Travis want to see wild animals, they’ll spend their time and money at a true sanctuary,” Debbie Metzler, PETA Foundation's director of captive animal welfare, told TMZ on Thursday.Copyright © 2024, ABC Audio. LionsgateThe new drama Ordinary Angels is now in theaters, starring Oscar winner Hilary Swank and Reacher lead Alan Ritchson.Based on a true story, Ritchson plays Ed Schmitt, a blue-collar widower who lost his wife to a rare liver disease that was passed on to their two daughters. Crushed by his loss, and the medical debt from his wife and his daughters' illnesses, he needs a miracle.Enter Swank's Sharon Stevens, a small-town hairdresser who single-handedly rallies an entire community to save his youngest daughter's life when she desperately needs a liver transplant. As in real life, Stevens doesn't take "no" for an answer. "She was so much fun to play," Swank said. "She's just a ball of life. I love her.""There's such a responsibility, I think, to play a real-life person. ... because you want to do justice to that person," Swank adds. "But Sharon was just so gracious about, you know, about 'Just play it how you like,' you know, 'Just do your thing. You just shine your own light and do it.' Which was very gracious."Apparently, it worked: Ritchson ran into the real Sharon at the movie's recent premiere and said she gushed, "'Hilary nailed it!'"The movie centers on Ed's crisis of faith and how prayers can be answered by, as the title suggests, ordinary angels among us. But Ritchson says it's not a "faith-based film," per se."It just ... seemed like a great story," Ritchson says."And I think that's where we should be approaching any story that we tell, faith-based or otherwise. 'Is this an excellent story? And are we ... striving for excellence in how we relate to this?'"   Copyright © 2024, ABC Audio. All rights reserved.

Good Morning America -- Steve Granitz/FilmMagicThe newest spinoff of The Walking Dead debuts Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on AMC and streams afterward on AMC+.The show reunites Danai Gurira's Michonne with Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes, years after he was supposedly killed in action."This is all an epic love story between Rick and Michonne," Gurira tells ABC's Good Morning America."She always believed he didn't die, but she could never prove it and she had to just carry on," the Black Panther veteran continues."So this is like nine years later when she found real clear evidence that he ... couldn't have died. And so, you know, she's on that journey and we go with her, and we catch up with where he is," Gurira teases.Chris Hardwick — who hosted the aftershow Talking Dead for years, when the zombie series was a ratings monster — said attending the new show's Los Angeles premiere was emotional. The premiere reunited Hardwick with TWD alum like Steven Yeun; Chandler Riggs, who played Rick's son Carl; and Norman Reedus."It was weirdly emotional," Hardwick said. "It just felt like, 'Oh my God ... when are we all going to be together like this again?' I mean this [show] was such a significant, you know, profound piece of my life. And it really was special to ... experience it again."Hardwick gushes of the new six-episode series, "It was fantastic. Stuff happens right out of the gate on the show where you're like, 'Oh my God!' They just get right into it."He was eager to say more, but added, "I don't want to start rambling and accidentally give anything away!"  Copyright © 2024, ABC Audio. All rights reserved.
