A report in ‘The Tribune’ said that the eight veterans have been accused of spying for Israel and could be sentenced to death.

The Indian government has been unable to get back the former officers who have been held in Qatar for seven months and are about to be charged by Doha.

Eight naval veterans from India who were working for a private firm were picked up on August 30 by officials of Qatar’s interior ministry. They have been in solitary confinement since then.

Meetu Bhargava, whose brother is one of the detained former naval officers, said the detention was extended for another 30 days. The families' hopes "have crashed", she said.
