More closures, more congestion and more headaches are on tap for commuters in Montreal this fall as a new construction season is set to begin.

The province's transport minister says the government is dedicating more than $180 million to realize the plan aimed at bolstering safety on Quebec roads.

Major repairs on the overpass by the Quebec Transport Ministry will close the westbound Highway 20 exit toward Des Sources Boulevard northbound from June 25 to Aug. 30.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) says its officers will be out on roads and highways to catch travellers who are speeding or driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The Quebec police force says speed and impaired driving "remain the main causes of fatal collisions" in the province. Last year, authorities recorded nine fatal crashes during the Saint-Jean and Canada Day weekends.
