We need to train ASHA workers and healthcare professionals on how to take care of dementia patients,” she said.

There is little awareness in society on dementia, which covers a range of degenerative diseases afflicting the aged, and is creating ripples of fear in nuclear families.

Zooming out of this case, in the larger picture too, the elderly are the most vulnerable lot in the city. Other than risks from within the family, there have been cases of robbery and murder at homes where the elderly live alone. ​
