Good Evening And Welcome to the Bbc News at six. Sir Keir Starmer has promised National Renewal in his first speech to the Labour Party Conference as Prime Minister but he warned of tough choices ahead. The Prime Minister insisted that keeping a Cool Head during challenging times would be better in the long term than easy answers. And he pledged to stabilise the economy but made it clear that some of his decisions would be unpopular. Our political editor, Chris Mason is at the conference in live...

In this study, we present a complete set of electron scattering cross-sections from 1-Methyl-5-Nitroimidazole (1M5NI) molecules for impact energies ranging from 0.1 to 1000 eV. This information is relevant to evaluate the potential role of 1M5NI as a molecular radiosensitizers. The total electron scattering cross-sections (TCS) that we previously measured with a magnetically confined electron transmission apparatus were considered as the reference values for the present analysis. Elastic scatter...

Objective. Microbeam radiation therapy (MRT) is an alternative emerging radiotherapy treatment modality which has demonstrated effective radioresistant tumour control while sparing surrounding healthy tissue in preclinical trials. This apparent selectivity is achieved through MRT combining ultra-high dose rates with micron-scale spatial fractionation of the delivered x-ray treatment field. Quality assurance dosimetry for MRT must therefore overcome a significant challenge, as detectors require b...

Hydrogenated amorphous silicon is a well-known detector material for its radiation resistance. For this reason it has been used in particle beam flux measurements and in solar panels designed for space applications. This study concern 10ฮผm thickness, p-i-n and charge selective contacts planar diode detectors which were irradiated with neutrons to two fluence values: 1016 neq/cm2 and 5 ร 1016 neq/cm2. In order to evaluate their radiation resistance, detector leakage current and response to x-ra...

A new batch of microdosimeters has been extensively studied for their charge collection efficiency (CCE) properties, as well as their radiation hardness for medical, space and accident applications. Silicon-on-insulator (SOI) microdosimeters with an active layer thickness of 10, 20 and 50 ฮผm have been investigated and were characterized with a 24 MeV carbon ion beam as well as a Co-60 gamma source. A negative pulse was observed in addition to the positive pulses generated within the sensitive v...
