According to the weather department, the maximum temperature is likely to be around 40 C in the Kollam and Palakkad districts.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rainfall alert for several parts of Central and East India till 14 February. The weather department also predicts a rise in minimum temperatures by 3-5 degree Celsius in many parts of India.

Isolated light rainfall is expected in Northwest and Central India from January 8 to 10.

The IMD forecasted mild rainfall over Madhya Pradesh for the entire week, and theres a possibility of light rain here and there in Uttar Pradesh on January 5th.

Cyclone Michaung has claimed at least eight lives in Chennai and several roads of the city remain waterlogged after Mondays heavy rains. The cyclonic storm, meanwhile, has made landfall near Bapatla in Andhra Pradesh.
