Court dismisses defamation case against ex-DSCC mayor Khokon
Another case withdrawn Court Correspondent Court Correspondent
A Dhaka court yesterday dismissed a defamation case filed against former Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Sayeed Khokon over making defamatory comments on incumbent Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Baki Billah passed the order as he did not find sufficient grounds to accept the case lodged by one Kazi Anisur Rahman, court sources said.
The same magistrate also granted a petition for withdrawing another defamation case filed against Khokon yesterday after lawyer Sarwar Alam, also the complainant, submitted a petition with the court to this end.
The mayor said Khokon s comments on him are defamatory and decision on this issue will be taken later.
He said he would not talk to media on this issue from tomorrow, as it has already turned into a farce .
The verbal spat between the former and incumbent mayors turned into a legal battle as Khokon has been sued for making defamatory comments against Taposh.
Lawyer Sarwar Alam and Kazi Anisur Rahman filed two separate cases with the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury.
After hearing of the cases yesterday, the magistrate took the cases into cognisance and recorded statements of the complainants.
