MVA ally against government move to cut electricity connections of defaulters
The Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS), an ally of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government, has decided to hit the streets on March 19 demanding a waiver of domestic electricity bills charged during the lockdown.
Power consumers had claimed that inflated bills were issued for the first three months after the lockdown was imposed in the State. Several demonstrations have been held against overcharging by the State Power Department.

Raju Shetti slams MVA govt. for failing to waive power bills of farmers
Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS) chief Raju Shetti on Wednesday said his outfit would be launching a State-wide agitation against rising fuel prices and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government’s failure to waive the power bills of farmers.
“At the current crude oil rates, per litre petrol should not be costing more than ₹30. Yet, the prices have soared to an unprecedented ₹98 per litre. The question on the lips of every citizen is who is pocketing the remaining ₹68 per litre,” said Mr. Shetti.
He said it was the Modi government’s ‘misperception’ that the farmers’ agitation was the handiwork of farmers from Punjab, Haryana and other northern States. “This agitation is pan-Indian in the truest sense. Mumbai, Feb 6 : Thousands of peasants, workers, tribals, political and social activists, including many women, took to the roads and highways across Maharashtra as part of the nationwide Chakka Jaam agitation to demand scrapping of the three farm laws and express solidarity with the farmers protests in Delhi, here on Saturday.
Activists blocked prominent roads, state or national highways and other important thoroughfares in 34 of the state s 36 districts - including Mumbai and excluding Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg - squatted and halted traffic, waved banners and placards, shouted slogans and sang devotional or patriotic songs, amid tight police security, according to Samyukta Kisan Morcha spokesperson P. S. Prasad.
