On Saturday, Chaitar's second wife Varsha reached the Rajpipla sub-jail to receive Shakuntala, along with other party supporters.

The court has also barred Chaitar from leaving Gujarat till the completion of trial without prior permission.

Arvind Kejriwal said the AAP has hired top lawyers for Chaitar Vasava and his wife Shakuntala in the alleged extortion case.

The court granted the permission based on a revision petition filed by the district police in the sessions court after its plea to extend police custody of the leader was rejected on December 18.

Chaitar Vasava had moved the bail plea after the court had sent him to judicial custody on Monday, turning down the police's request to extend his remand.

The court remanded Chaitar and four others arrested along with him on December 14 to judicial custody at the sub-jail in Rajpipla where Chaitar's wife Shakuntala, personal assistant Jitendra and a farmer Ramesh Vasava have been lodged since their arrest on November 3.

The matter has been listed before the court of Justice Vimal K Vyas.

The court, which heard arguments in the MLA's anticipatory bail plea on Thursday, reserved its order stating that the police could arrest Chaitar "as per procedure" in the meanwhile, his advocate K J Tadvi told The Indian Express.

In case of Shakuntala, the court also stated that since she is in hospital – she had complained of chest pain in jail – she is "yet to be taken into one-day police custody", which was granted by the court on November 8.

Chaitar Vasava’s wife Shakuntala, who has been in judicial custody since the night of November 3, was rushed to the Rajpipla civil hospital Tuesday after she complained of chest pain.
