Louisiana State Police reports that one person has died from injuries received in the crash while 5 people sustained varying degrees of injuries.

"Class of 2022, on behalf of Ramsie and her family, we are so proud of you," Ali Vincent, mother of Ramsie Baumgardner, said to North Vermilion seniors.

"Our community has suffered enough in the past six years; we cannot lose another member to this same issue."

MAURICE, La. (AP) — A Louisiana high school senior who lost her best friend in a head-on collision is on a mission to improve safety on on Highway 167. Emma Hebert and Ramsie Baumgardner both attended North Vermillion High, and Baumgardner became the third high schooler killed on Highway 167 in the last four years.

"Our community has suffered enough in the past six years; we cannot lose another member to this same issue."
