Wellsville's former Dresser-Rand facility to be repurposed

WELLSVILLE — The village, town and Allegany County received a big, early Christmas present Friday when it was announced that the Wellsville Business Park has taken over the former Dresser-Rand facility. In a Zoom press conference Friday, Allegany County Development Director Craig Clark was joined by more than 25 people who were eager to hear from the new owners of the facility — partners Allen Knauf and Joe Meindl of Rochester. Clark said that his office has been working with the partners for about a month concerning the 400,000 square feet of factory and 50,000 square feet of office space at the former Dresser facility, which has been vacant since April.

Wellsville mayor under COVID quarantine; attends meeting via phone

Shayler said Tuesday he is under COVID-19 quarantine following an exposure to the virus. “I’ve had two tests and tested negative each time,” Shayler said. “I feel fine and am symptom-free. The restrictions are what they are and I’m going to follow them.” Shayler is under quarantine restrictions for 14 days. Afterwards, if he is still symptom-free, he will be released from quarantine. “My get-out-of-jail date is the 27th,” he kidded while acknowledging that he will be home for Christmas. His Christmas message is a warning, “Yes we have a vaccine, but it is going to take a while. Until then we all need to be respectful. Wear a mask and show your respect for others.”

Fire contract issue rekindles for town, village of Wellsville

Fire contract issue rekindles for town, village of Wellsville Town council uncomfortable with lack of a ratified contract The Wellsville Daily Reporter WELLSVILLE A contract for fire protection service to the liking of the village, town and the Wellsville Fire Department doesn’t appear to be waiting under the 2020 Christmas tree.  A matter of contention for several years, Town Supervisor Shad Alsworth brought up the issue at this week’s meeting of the town council. Village trustee Mike Roeske, the liaison to the town, informed the council that the 2020 contract has not been ratified.    “The village board approved it, the fire companies did not,” Roeske said. “Two of them didn’t. You have to have four because that’s the way the law reads.”
