New look at Wellsville village hall harkens back to downtown's history

WELLSVILLE — The Village of Wellsville's "new" home at 23 North Main now feels a little more like the old Municipal Building.
Village clerk Wendy Seely spent a recent Saturday afternoon sprucing up the village hall with historic photos of downtown Wellsville from decades and centuries past. The board commended Seely's efforts with a round of applause. Seely estimated the effort took around four hours.
The village made the move from its longtime home in the Municipal Building to the ground floor of 23 North Main in late 2019, citing ADA compliance and cost savings.
Shayler said Tuesday he is under COVID-19 quarantine following an exposure to the virus.
âIâve had two tests and tested negative each time,â Shayler said. âI feel fine and am symptom-free. The restrictions are what they are and Iâm going to follow them.â
Shayler is under quarantine restrictions for 14 days. Afterwards, if he is still symptom-free, he will be released from quarantine.
âMy get-out-of-jail date is the 27th,â he kidded while acknowledging that he will be home for Christmas.
His Christmas message is a warning, âYes we have a vaccine, but it is going to take a while. Until then we all need to be respectful. Wear a mask and show your respect for others.â

WELLSVILLE — It was a changing of the guard for the Wellsville village board Monday night as Gary Pearson took over a seat previously held by trustee Jeremy Cole.
The village presented a plaque to Cole thanking him for his service to the board. Jeff Monroe did the honors with Mayor Randy Shayler attending the meeting via teleconference while on COVID-19 quarantine through Dec. 27.
Pearson, who won a write-in campaign in the November election, thanked his fellow board members and Cole for easing the transition. Cole said he is only a phone call away should his help be needed.
